Legionellosis is the common term for an infection that has been caused by the legionella bacterium. There are different infections that come under the title of legionellosis that include:

  • Legionnaires Disease
  • Pontiac Fever
  • Lochgoilhead Fever

Legionnaires Disease is by far the most dangerous type of legionellosis as it can cause fatalities in those groups who are particularly at risk. The other forms of legionellosis are not as dangerous but are unpleasant to experience.

All forms of legionellosis are basically contracted through inhalation of the vapour or spray from a contaminated water supply. They have differing symptoms and periods of infection and in the worst instances can be fatal.
